After Wisdom Tooth Removal

More than just an extraction, wisdom tooth removal is a surgical procedure. As with any surgical procedure, special precautions must be taken.

Following surgery, a gauze will be placed over the surgical site. This gauze should be left in place for 45 minutes and then discarded. This aids in clotting. You should not drink from a straw or rinse your mouth following the procedure as these could dislodge the essential blood clot. We advise that you limit activity for 24 hours to allow your body additional time to heal. If you experience pain, take any prescribed medications as directed by your doctor.

You should be able to return to normal activity within a day or two of your wisdom tooth surgery. It is best, however, to avoid using a straw or vigorous rinsing until the surgical site is healed.
